kissbookOn Thursday, April 14, Gary Soto, renowned poet and author, will present his new book, You Kiss by th’Book: New Poems from Shakespeare’s Line, at SHED in Healdsburg. Hosted by Healdsburg Literary Guild and SHED, the event will take place from 7-8:30 p.m. A $10 admission will get you a seat for the reading, a glass of wine from Chavez Family Vineyards or a horchata from Agave Restaurant and some hors d’oeuvres from SHED.

Gary Soto, an American writer, is best know for his works that detail the struggles of Latinos in America, and their transcendence from hardship. What makes Soto’s new book unique is the fact that is was co-authored by the late William Shakespeare, himself. Each poem begins with a line from Shakespeare’s poetry, continuing with Soto’s original writing. It’s the perfect blend of classic and new, with some poems embracing the original meanings, and others taking on a new light.

After the reading, Soto will be available for a meet and greet, and will sign copies of You Kiss by th’Book.

This event is the second in the Healdsburg Literary Guild’s and SHED’s “Luminarias” series, an evening reading with wine and appetizers at SHED. The event shines a light on world-class literary luminaries, bringing them to literary lovers in Sonoma County. The third event in the series will be Thursday, May 19, and will feature California Poet Laureate, Dana Gioia.
